Driving mental health initiatives with colourful tradie workwear

1st March 2022

Next time you walk past a Plantation Homes construction site and notice the tradies donning colour and head turning workwear, it is not to attract attention on themselves, rather the snazzy high vis shirts are being worn with pride for an important purpose and message.

As part of Plantation Homes, Edgewater Homes, and Henley’s growing national wellbeing program, more than 2500 tradies and employees nationwide will be wearing colourful work wear to kickstart conversations around mental health in the industry.

We love our tradies!

Aptly called “We love our tradies,” we have connected with Australian social impact workwear brand, TradeMutt, so tradies can wear funky eye-catching work wear to put a much-needed spotlight on the mental health challenges which face the industry.

A percentage of every purchased TradeMutt shirt goes towards the not for profit established by TradeMutt founders, Ed Ross and Dan Allen – TIACS (This Is A Conversation Starter) – providing free, early intervention and short term mental health support to tradies and their families in the form of free text, chat and call back service direct to mental health clinicians. TIACS does not require a mental health plan from GPs.

Catalyst for conversation

Looking out for our tradies is serious business and they will always be a top priority.

Nationally the business has created the ‘Building Healthy Minds’ initiative – a mental health program, as well as providing tradies with an industry-leading environment which includes the mental health program, competitive industry rates and simply getting paid weekly on time, every time.

A series of social events will also be held throughout the year, with the aim of bringing Plantation’s team and tradies together to ensure that their wellbeing and that of their colleagues is always top of mind.

We want our tradies to have the courage to talk about their mental health and wellbeing. With each conversation, we are a step closer to connection and change.
